How long does an Inlet Soap Co. bar last?
With daily use, most bars last approximately 3–4 weeks. Longevity depends on how the soap is used and stored. For best results, allow your bar to fully dry between uses on a well-draining soap dish. A dry bar is a happy bar and one that lasts longer.
What is the shelf life of your sea salt soap?
Our sea salt soaps have a shelf life of 12–24 months when stored in a cool, dry place. Over time, the bar may continue to harden, which can actually extend its lifespan once in use. While the scent may soften slightly as months pass, the soap’s cleansing and exfoliating qualities remain unchanged.
We package our bars in unbleached muslin to allow airflow while protecting the soap, supporting both longevity and sustainability.
Why is sodium hydroxide listed as an ingredient?
Sodium hydroxide (also known as lye) is essential to the traditional soap-making process, called saponification. It’s the chemical reaction that transforms oils and butters into true soap.
Importantly, no sodium hydroxide remains in the finished bar after curing. What’s left is a gentle, skin-friendly soap, crafted the way soap has been made for centuries.

Why do you use muslin packaging?
Muslin is a natural cotton fabric that is biodegradable, reusable, and compostable. Unlike plastic packaging, it allows the soap to breathe while minimizing waste. We chose muslin as a practical, low-impact solution that aligns with our commitment to thoughtful materials and reduced environmental footprint.
How should I store my soap for longevity?
To extend the life of your soap, store it on a well-draining soap dish and allow it to dry completely between uses. Avoid leaving the bar in standing water or enclosed containers. Proper drying helps the soap stay firm and last longer.
Why doesn’t Inlet Soap Co. use palm oil?
Inlet Soap Co. chooses not to use palm oil in our formulations due to the environmental concerns associated with large-scale palm cultivation, including deforestation and habitat loss. Instead, we formulate our soaps with thoughtfully selected oils that align with our commitment to responsible sourcing and long-term sustainability.
